A Christmas for Giving

A Christmas for Giving
Sharing the joy of Christmas by giving to those affected by Hurricane Sandy
In Newfoundland over the next few weeks, many will be making preparations for Christmas celebrations with family, friends, and co-workers. Those in our homes and neighbourhoods will be blessed by generosity and love. No one will be unaffected by the presence of joy and sharing in the local community.
In Long Island, Statten Island, Brooklyn and Queen’s over the next few weeks, individuals and communities will be continuing their struggle to return to normalcy following the effects of Hurricane Sandy. Many are still without adequate access to electricity, clean water, and shelter. For them Christmas may be a time of scarcity and hopelessness. Families face grief, loss of home and community.
This Christmas, consider sharing your joy to neighbours in the New York Region.
The Parish of the Ascension and community partners are offering a Gala for those in Newfoundland to share Christmas with our neighbours to the south.
The Parish has linked with Churches in the New York Region, and will be sending funds so that families and neighbourhoods in New York can receive care, support, and the gift of Christmas.
The Gala includes a three-course dinner, silent auction, live auction, and performances by various local artists.
All proceeds raised will be given to those affected by Hurricane Sandy.
Dinner will be prepared by a team of prominent local chefs including,
Roary MacPherson, Mike Barsky, Andrea Maunder, Michelle Leblanc, Shaun Hussey, Brian Piercey, Angie Ryan, Jillian Lake, Thomas Canning and Hans Uebel.
A Christmas for Giving will take place Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at the CLB Armoury, St. John’s. Doors open at 6:00 pm and dinner will be served at 7:00 pm.
